چکیده

objective: reinforcement with fiber is an effective method for considerable improvement in flexural properties of indirect composite resin restorations. the aim of this in-vitro study was to compare the transverse strength of composite resin bars reinforced with preimpregnated and non-impregnated fibers. materials and methods: thirty six bar type composite resin specimens (3×2×25 mm) were constructed in three groups. the first group was the control group (c) without any fiber reinforcement. the specimens in the second group (p) were reinforced with preimpregnated fibers and the third group (n) with non-impregnated fibers. these specimens were tested by the three-point bending method to measure primary transverse strength. data were statistically analyzed with one way anova and tukey's tests. results: there was a significant difference among the mean primary transverse strength in the three groups (p<0.001). the post-hoc (tukey) test showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-impregnated and control groups in their primary transverse strength (p<0.001). regarding deflection, there was also a significant difference among the three groups (p=0.001). there were significant differences among the mean deflection of the control group and two other groups (pc&n;<.001 and pc&p;=.004), but there was no significant difference between the non- and pre-impregnated groups (pn&p;=.813). conclusion: within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that reinforcement with fiber considerably increased the transverse strength of composite resin specimens, but impregnation of the fiber used implemented no significant difference in the transverse strength of composite resin samples.

Accelerated Heat Aging Study of Phenolic/Basalt Fiber Reinforced Composites

One of the greatest impediments to use polymer-matrix composites is their susceptibility to degradation when exposed to the elevated temperatures and the limited knowledge on the thermal and mechanical properties of these composites at such temperatures. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of accelerated heat aging on the tensile properties of the Woven Basalt/Phenolic (WBP) ...

Shear Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Clayey Sands

Consolidated-drained triaxial compression tests were conducted to compare the stress-strain and volume change response of sands and clayey sands reinforced with discrete randomly distributed poly-propylene fibers. The influence of various test parameters such as fiber content (0.0%, 0.5% and 1.0% by weight), clay content (0%, 10% and 20% by weight), relative density (50% and 90%) and confining ...

Comparative Study of the Flexural Strength of Three Fiber-Reinforced Composites

Received Jan. 2012; Received in revised form June 2012; Accepted June 2012. ABSTRACT Statement of Problem: After 30 years of intermittent reports in the literature, the use of fiber-reinforcement is just now experiencing rapid expansion in dentistry. However, there are some controversy reports in the amounts of flexural strength of fiber reinforced composites to use them as bridges. Purpose: Th...

Comparison of Two Computational Microstructure Models for Predicting Effective Transverse Elastic Properties of Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Composites

Characterization of properties of composites has attracted a great deal of attention towards exploring their applications in engineering. The purpose of this work is to study the difference of two computational microstructure models which are widely used for determining effective transverse elastic properties of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites. The first model based on the classic me...

Creep Behavior of Basalt and Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites

The creep behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy (BFRE) and glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites was studied through tensile testing at high temperature. To study the effect of reinforcing epoxy, the micro glass powder (MGP) was added at various volume percentage into the epoxy resin in BFRE composites. The initial strain for all the specimens were evaluated and compared with each ...
